I’m on a week-long staycation in Singapore so I came up with a list of things I wanted to accomplish. I don’t always get a ten-day break to do these things so I’m making the most of it.
- Do spring cleaning. –I threw out a whole plastic bag of receipts!
- Breaking Bad marathon. –I manage about six episodes per day.
- Game of Thrones marathon. –Gave up in Season 2.
- Read a few chapters from a book. –Dusted off “Twilight in Djakarta”.
- Create a 6-month budget plan. –A new excel file.
- Go jogging at Ang Mo Kio – Bishan Park. –Enjoyed the view again.
- Learn how to cook two dishes. –I made (1) lumpia; and (2) pasta with broccoli in pesto.
- Visit the beach. Because no vacation is complete without some sun, sand and booze.
N has work on weekdays and I have always wanted to just spend time by myself. I felt like having a picnic by myself at Siloso Beach in Sentosa.
3:17 PM – Pack bag with a notebook, a book, an extra t-shirt, my D3200 and some tissues.
The weather was pretty hot and sunny. Perfect for a late afternoon at the beach! I took this photo from the kitchen window. This is the kind of HDB that we live at in central Singapore.
But first… LET ME TAKE A SELFIE.
3:30 PM – Left the flat and made my way to Bishan MRT by foot.
I love the neighbourhood. A balance of suburban HDB flats and gardens and pathways.
Bishan bus interchange is a few blocks from our flat.
I used my EZ Link for this trip since my debit card can’t be used temporarily. This was an EZ Link card that was gifted to me by a friend before I came to Singapore two years ago. It’s my backup EZ Link card. N bought a San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge sticker Β to decorate my card. EZ Link makes life easier. Like the Octopus Card in Hong Kong.
3:35 PM – Bishan MRT, Circle Line. Noticed plenty of school kids going home at this time.
I like Bishan’s central location. It is served by the Circle Line and the North-East Line. I was headed to Sentosa (HarbourFront MRT) but I was craving for Carl’s Jr. for lunch so I made a detour and headed to nex Serangoon first.
With me on this trip was my Kylie Minogue playlist. I am currently listening to her Kiss Me Once album. When there’s too much Kylie I start listening to my Beyonce playlist with songs like “Partition” and “Drunk in Love” π
4:01 PM – Serangoon MRT is two stops away from Bishan. There’s a Carl’s Jr. upstairs at nex.
I ordered the Super-Star Cheeseburger combo (SGD 11.90). I received a Coca-Cola tin canister containing four coasters! I didn’t know what promotion was going on, the cashier just handed them to me.
4:37 PM – Serangoon MRT on the North-East Line connects direct to HarbourFront MRT.
I’m loving the Thursday crowd! Barely anyone on the trains at past 4pm.
4:57 PM – I arrived at HarbourFront MRT in about 20 minutes. Fast!
5:03 PM – Instead of spending SGD 12.00 on a tiny bottle of beer at Siloso Beach, I went to Giant VivoCity to get me a large Tiger beer in can, some chips, and mineral water for a more budget-friendlyΒ SGD 8.95.
I headed upstairs to buy a Sentosa ticket. Normally we take the boardwalk where it costs cheaper (SGD 1.00) but my destination was the beach at the end of the monorail so the SGD 4.00 would be worth it. Plus, I wanted to catch more sun before it set.
5:23 PM – On the monorail to Sentosa. A reminder that Singapore is a commercial trading port.
While tourists were taking their time exploring… I made a bee-line to Siloso Beach like a man on a mission. With my grocery bag in stow. I was also feeling good… I made it! Beat that procrastination. Akala ko kasi tatamarin ako.
It was a partly cloudy afternoon. Not bad!
5:40 PM – Siloso Beach. I found a quiet spot facing the seashore. There were barely any people on the beach and it was lovely.
Β 6:33 PM – I finished a chapter from “Twilight in Djakarta”. Took in the sights again and just enjoyed the slow sunset.
7:10 PM – The sun set and I made my way back to VivoCity to meet N and S.
A lovely day from Bishan to Sentosa. π
